Write a seven-page (not including the title page or references page) position essay about some sort of controversial issue. Your main goal is to convince your readers that your position is correct through presenting claims and specific evidence. Your claims should be supported by research. You should cite (meaning either quote, paraphrase, or summarize) at least six sources, at least two of which should be scholarly. Every time you make a claim that is either the words or the ideas from a source, you should reference the book or article so you do not accidentally plagiarize.
This essay should have an introduction in three parts: an interesting opening, a bridge, and a thesis statement. Second, your essay should have a body. This body should begin with background information. For your background information, you should include any necessary history that frames the debate. You should not include unnecessary background information that only serves to lengthen your essay. After your background information, you should move into your argument.This section should be the longest portion of your essay, and it should contain sufficient research and evidence to argue your point. At some point in your body, you must entertain and refute an opposing opinion. Finally, your essay should contain a conclusion. Your conclusion should be the shortest part of your essay, and it should briefly reiterate your main point and answer the “so what?” question. The final page of your essay should be the References page, and it does not count towards the seven page requirement. It should contain only the article information and not the summary you submitted with the annotated bibliography.
Use APA format. You should have a title page with your title, your name, the school information, the class information, my name, and the due date. Your page number in the top right corner should contain only the page number. The first page after the title page should start with the title centered and in bold. Use Times New Roman 12 point font throughout the essay. Your essay should be double-spaced, with no extra space between paragraphs. Include no strange spacing or large font in your essay. Indent each paragraph. Your essay must be at least seven full pages long, but try not to exceed nine pages.
Any quotes or paraphrases within the essay must be documented according to current APA standards. Each citation should have an entry on the references page; likewise every source listed on the references page should be cited in the essay.
