In a 5- page paper, analyze the book Serpico. We will also view and discuss the film in class. What issues did Frank Serpico deal with in the New York City Police department which had not been confronted effectively in its long history? Did his valiant efforts to reform the department meet with acceptance from the police brass? Were the changes in departmental regulations instituted by the Knapp Commission – ones that were inspired by Serpico’s allegations – ever really adhered to by rank – and – file cops? Would you say that Frank Serpico is considered today a model police officer or a self-aggrandizing trouble maker who thrived on the attention he created? Again, your paper should reflect the hisorical literature of the day (e.g. newspaper articles, magazines, books) to support your arguments and to make historiographic comparisons. In a 5- page paper, analyze the book Serpico.
