Ethics and Morals might be considered two sides of the same coin.
Morals are generally thought of as “what is.” Meaning Customs that define and govern the behavior of people. It’s an idea or opinion that’s driven by a desire to be good. Personal (internal) principals that rarely change.
Ethics, on the other hand, are “what ought to be.” Meaning how people should behave according to a higher standard. These would be considered external rules that vary between communities.
At the intersection of Ethics and Morals comes the notion of “Right and Wrong.” Ethics deals with what someone ought to do while Morality describes what someone actually does. Within the area of right and wrong are many challenging events that cannot be defined as fully right or fully wrong. It is from within that intersection we have our next writing assignment.
