Select a mass media ethics-related event that has been in the news recently.
(Note you can select events that were reported on before the first day of class Jan. 7) and share it with the class. Explain the ethical issues involved in the case and which professional ethics codes apply.
You will then discuss why you agree or disagree with how the event unfolded.
Each individual/group should also pose a few questions (4 maximum) related to media ethics for the class to discuss.
Each individual/group should provide an online link for their classmates to read about the event or view video/s if appropriate, etc. You may provide more than one link if necessary.
Evaluation Criteria
1. Is the topic timely, and does it involve an issue of ethical concern to mass media professionals? (Is the topic media related?)
2. Is the issue clearly explained? Are the ethical concerns clearly articulated? Are the appropriate ethics codes applied to the situation?
3. Do/es the presenter/s do a good job “articulating and responding to ” discussion questions and posts throughout the discussion, responding to classmates’ comments, and keeping the discussion on track? Are the questions related to the ethical issues we have covered in class?
