Ethnic Discussion Post

The assignment is to pin a discussion post to the class board.

Your discussion post must include an image, a title, and a caption with at least three sentences:

1. A sentence describing the image, its source, and a date.
2. A sentence giving context to the image or describing its significance.
3. A sentence connecting the image to an idea or ideas from class.

Ok, let’s break down the different parts of the assignment.

Kinds of Images. A common image may be a scene from a film (an assigned film or some other film relevant to the course), but you can also use film posters, publicity photos of actors, behind the scenes photos, or any sort of image related to the class.

Selecting Images. A google image search can be helpful but take extra care to find the most interesting images, of the highest quality. Try searching for a film title and the year it was released (in quotes) in a Google image search, and under “Tools” click on “Size” and click “Large.”

Also, spend some time searching. Don’t just select the first image that pops up, or the most common one. Really dig and use your own perspective—your own eye—to select images.

In that vein, some of the most creative and interesting images are often those you create yourself. If you can download films, you can make your own screenshots. If not, you can make screenshots from most online film trailers.

Titles should preview your perspective on the issue. Don’t just title your image “Pariah”—be creative!

In practice, “Sentence 3” could be several sentences; it might take a few sentences to explain the significance of the image for the course. If you run out of space in the caption, use the comment function to add more.
