A common justification for forced sterilization or heavily suggested forms of birth control in which the woman may experience severe side effects (NORPLANT, for instance) is that the woman was financially unable to provide for more children and they are “burdens on the state.”
In other words, the personal decisions of the individual necessitate state assistance in the form of welfare benefits.
This is a difficult subject to tackle as a balance between personal rights and freedoms and dependency on the state for assistance.
