Evaluate and compare the green policy recommendations and the associated modelling approaches of mainstream and heterodox economists.

The purpose of this course is to introduce and develop a pluralist and historical framework for
understanding central macroeconomic issues. Particular attention will be paid to explaining
and contrasting the (orthodox/mainstream) classical and neoclassical schools of thought with
the (heterodox/critical) post-Keynesian school of thought. Important topics to be covered in
this course include, but are not limited to, production, unemployment, inequality, saving,
investment, taxation, government spending, trade, and inflation. The course is designed for
students with little or no prior knowledge of macroeconomics. By the end of this course,
however, students will be expected to be able to understand and evaluate the different
theoretical viewpoints introduced and how they explain, or fail to explain, various key
macroeconomic phenomena.
