1,000 words. Examine how two religions we have studied orient people to the numinous. How are they similar or different? Choose specific concepts, rituals, myths, or ideas etc. that interest you to organize your essay. Use detailed information from class readings, notes, films and lectures as the basis for your examination. Contrast the religion you wrote about in your Critical Thinking essays to two religions we studied in class (or an ancient religion you find interesting). Use ideas, concepts, and/or information from class readings and lectures. Ask yourself: what do I want to contrast/compare? How are these religions similar or different? You will want to identify an axis of analysis – one or two aspects of religion to focus on (e.g., social organization, or relation to the numinous, or sources). If you choose a religion beyond what we have discussed in class, that is absolutely fine – be sure you have enough knowledge to make a clear, well-informed comparison. I will look for the same depth of knowledge as I would for a religion we have covered in class.
