Explain and evaluate the outcomes of the practice decisions/changes based on evidence.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) projects are undertaken to address clinical problems that healthcare providers face in the workplace. This may be a hospital, clinic, community or home settings, schools, or anywhere care is provided.
EBP enhances nurses’ abilities to solve problems that they encounter in their work lives. Although there are numerous nursing EBP Models, there are 7 key steps that are followed:
Step 0: Cultivate a spirit of inquiry
Step 1: Ask clinical questions in PICOT format
Step 2: Search for the best evidence
Step 3: Critically appraise the evidence
Step 4: Integrate the evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences & values
Step 5: Explain and evaluate the outcomes of the practice decisions/changes based on evidence.
Step 6: Disseminate EBP results
Clinical nurses at all stages of their careers are team members in evidence-based practice projects. Usually teams are multi-disciplinary, including pharmacists, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and others.
In new RN Residency or New Graduate programs, you will be part of an EBP project Team.
In this course, you will complete a semester-long EBP Project Simulation with a team that you choose. You will participate in Steps 0-4 from #2. The ability to function in teams is needed in nursing. All students contribute to teamwork but every student will have a lead role for one part of the project.
It is expected that Leads ensure the team is completing high-quality, timely work. Leads should contact the Professor if a team member is not engaging with the team.
A clinical setting and care problem are assigned by the instructor (See #9). Together with your team you will develop an EBP question based on the clinical problem, search the literature for answers, and propose an evidence-based solution to improve client or nursing outcomes in your clinical setting.
We use modified Johns Hopkins Nursing Model EBP Tools + an electronic Poster Presentation for this Simulation
