Explain any critical incidents that occurred, how did the leaders style impact the group, were the techniques used by the facilitator helpful, how were the activities received by members, etc.).

2. Group observation & critique – Observe a group therapy session (e.g., at a school, mental health clinic, or other place, such as an AA group). Critique the group paying careful attention to the skills used by the leader to help the group accomplish its purpose. Comment on significant roles played by group participants of both a helpful and counterproductive nature. Comment on what you learned, what was done effectively by the leader and what, if anything, should have been done differently. Follow the information below, grading rubric and cite the text or supplemental readings for full credit.
Do not use a cover sheet or title page. Put your name, date, and title and the date of the group you observed in the top left-hand corner of the first page. Skip a line and begin the body of the paper. Margins should be 1 inch. The paper should use 12-point font, be double spaced, and at least three full pages in length.

The body of the paper should include:
1. Description summarize what happened during the group including the number and description of clients present. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY CLIENT NAMES. Also, include group affect (the feelings present), what issues were worked on, activities or exercises completed, activity level of group members (some may have been more active than others), how the session began and ended, etc. This is often best done chronologically.
2. Analysis provide your assessment of the groups process and outcome (what was the groups comfort level with one another, level of group cohesion and trust, what interactional dynamics were evident, explain any critical incidents that occurred, how did the leaders style impact the group, were the techniques used by the facilitator helpful, how were the activities received by members, etc.). Where appropriate refer to specific concepts discussed in class.
3. Your own reactions and comments about the group and how you might apply what you learned to your future work as a group counselor.
