PARAGRAPH 1
Quotes:
“The happy life is thought to be virtuous; now a virtuous life requires exertion and does not consist in amusement” (Aristotle X.6).
“…the life in accordance with the other kind of virtue is happy; for the activities in accordance with this befit our human estate. Just and brave acts, and other virtuous acts, we do in relation to each other, observing our respective duties with regard to contracts and services and all manner of actions and with regard to passions; and all of these seem to be typically human” (Aristotle X.8).
– happiness should not come in pleasure or amulets for ourselves but rather achieve e happiness though the action goes doing good. Actions such as being kind, helpful, brave or forgiving will let us achieve a sort of peace and happiness.
• Write about certain actions that bring happiness
• There is a difference between what we understand is entertainment and happiness. Entertainment does not fulfill our happiness at times and the pleasure that comes from this does not allow us to reach true happiness of life.
• First quote talks about exertion and it is effort and labor meaning doing an action. Aristotle begins to explain how these actions and giving are what bring happiness to others and to us as a feeling of doing something good.
• When we do a certain action, such donating to those who don’t have anything or work in a shelter for the homeless, we should do because we want and we want to see the good in us and others, instead of guilt
• This will bring us happiness
