Explain how dementia impacts each of the cognitive domains you chose. What do deficits in each of those domains look like?

A 75-year-old woman was referred to a neuropsychologist for evaluation because her family was concerned about her recent behaviors. The family reported that she had been experiencing difficulty completing basic tasks like paying her bills, sometimes getting confused when driving to the grocery store, occasionally mixed-up words when talking to her daughter on the phone, and generally seemed to want to spend less time with her friends. The client has a history of hypertension, and an MRI showed evidence that she had experienced a stroke in the past. During initial neuropsychological screening, it was determined that she should be evaluated for suspected vascular dementia.

There is a large array of cognitive domains of functioning that are assessed in a typical neuropsychological battery of tests. The client in the above scenario might be tested in the domains of memory, attention, and motor functions, just to name a few. There are also many more domains identified in your textbook.

After reviewing the cognitive domains in your textbook, choose two that appear relevant to dementia. Using your textbook and at least 1 current (within the last 5 years) peer reviewed journal article from the library, identify a test for each of your domains that is used in diagnosis of dementia. You will need to find a total of two tests (one per domain).

Explain how dementia impacts each of the cognitive domains you chose. What do deficits in each of those domains look like?
Describe your chosen tests and how they are used to evaluate those domains.
