Module Overview
In this module, you will continue to research the leading health indicators while learning about a framework that helps health educators, public health officials, and other health professionals plan and implement community-based programs.
The United States is one of the most affluent societies in the world. Yet the U.S. ranks low compared to other affluent developed countries on many measures of health, including life expectancy and infant mortality.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2020):
Healthy People (HP) 2030 is the fifth iteration of the initiative. Launched on August 18, 2020, HP2030 features a framework that includes its vision, mission, foundational principles, and overarching goals; core objectives with targets; and research and developmental objectives. HP2030 was developed through a multiyear process with input from members of the public; public and private organizations; the Secretarys Advisory Committee on National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2030, an independent federal advisory committee with subject matter experts; a diverse group of federal and nonfederal subject matter experts; and federal agencies.
In comparison, Healthy People 2020 uses a framework for improving community health called MAP-IT. MAP-IT (Mobilize, Assess, Plan, Implement, Track) is a framework that can be used to plan and evaluate public health interventions in a community.
