Explain how race class gender and age affect your health positively and negatively.

As we have discussed in class, in the United States, race, class, gender, and age have a great bearing on our life experiences as well as our health outcomes. One might say that these factors are major contributors to the inequality in medical care and health outcomes found in America.
Therefore, the assignment is to critically assess how your race, class, gender, and age affect your health both positively and negatively. You should provide a description of your racial/ethnic background. Do you feel that your race/ethnicity has any bearing on your present and future health and well as the medical care you receive? Do you think your perceived class position in society has any effect on the quality of care you or your family members receive? How does your gender affect your access to medical care and how you are treated by medical professionals? Are you treated different than other family members because of your age? How does that affect medical outcomes? What do you think will be the future prognosis for the demographic variables you outlined in our society? For example, will the conditions for those less fortunate or people of color, or women close the health outcomes gap compared to whites in the future? Are there any theories we discussed regarding Medical Sociology that relate to your situation? Please add any other issues you feel are relevant to your essay.
In writing your essay you should attempt to utilize relevant sociological concepts that we have covered or will cover and apply them to your discussion. I am looking to see how successfully incorporate thing we have learned in class. Do not feel that you have to stuff terms into the paper. Use them to further your points.
Remember, this is not a research paper. I am not interested in reading another author’s thoughts. I want to hear what you have to say. There are no right and wrong answers. I am interested in how you shape your discussion. I am always looking for these papers to be well-organized and well-written.
