Explain how sentimental and valuable do you think art is to the artist who drew, painted, sculpted , etc. the piece of work?

From Week 2, watch the videos (Monument’s Men) again, post your thoughts on what makes art valuable as a response to the statements below:

The video clips about the Monument’s Men indicated that art was so valuable that it was worth risking human lives to preserve. Hitler thought it was important enough to steal hide, and then plan to destroy (if he were defeated). The Monument’s Men did not go after the art in order to make money or to benefit from its value in any personal way. Instead, they returned the vast collection to its rightful owners.

Discuss the following:
1) What, then, makes art so valuable?
2) If you were one of the Monument’s Men and you had to choose which to save, a large stash of stolen cash/gold or stolen art (in either case, as much as you could carry), what would you choose and why? In either case, would you try to return it to its rightful owners? Why or why not?
