Explain how the evidence from members of both faiths offer a rationale on why misconceptions of one another may have fueled the violence of this era?

Throughout the centuries, Christians and Muslims have encountered and even lived peacefully with one another. However, there have been periods where both sides have come to severe misunderstandings which have led to conflict and violent bloodshed. Perhaps the best know example of this conflict is what European historians have referred to as the “Crusades”. How does the evidence from members of both faiths offer a rationale on why misconceptions of one another may have fueled the violence of this era? Caution: Please understand that the documents in this chapter reflect the viewpoints of those who may not have been knowledgeable of the “enemy” and were often misguided in their rationale. It is not the purpose of the authors to promote or condone these perspectives.
