For primary sources cite only the author’s last name and book page number in parentheses: (Harriot 25) or (Key 163). D not waste your precious space telling me that itis a page number or telling me the first name of the author or the title of the work. I know this. Just give me the actual last name and page number and we will be fine.For secondary sources, cite the abbreviated title andpage # (TAE267).1 That’s it. (It’s shorter than the author’s name and therefore saves you space,which you need. I realize this is not a standard citation system, but use it for this Class because it saves space for more important things.) 1. Use a lot more evidence and cite it. This does some, but most of the sources remain unused 2. Study and avoid passive voice. Use active voice instead as it is more clear, concise, and direct. 3. Be much more concise. Condense the first eight lines into a single concise thesis sentence, then move forward with proving it. Deal with each source in one or at most two sentences, so you have room for all of them. Since I am the audience, you can assume I know the material well.4. In the space you save, use more of the sources, and cite them individually, not as part of the larger work they appear in. That way, it’s easier to see where things are coming from, and which are primary and which are secondary sources.
