Chapter 28: Report of the National Advisory Commission, Native Americans Occupy Alcatraz
Chapter 29: Jerry Falwell, Pat Buchanan, Jesse Jackson
Chapter 30: Obergefell v. Hodges, Pedro Lopez

Once you are completed with reading the document, type up answers to the following questions in a Microsoft Word document. Each individual answer should be a paragraph of approximately 150-300 words. Make sure to use specific examples from the document themselves in your answers and CITE the authors of the documents + the textbook, also need page numbers if available.

1. Many of these documents contain examples of “other civil rights movements” (i.e. not women or African Americans). Explain how these documents address the topics of nativism and immigration over the progress of this course. Since 1877, what’s changed for immigrants in this country, and what really hasn’t?

2. Sticking with immigration for a second question: explain how these documents describe the life experiences of immigrants in this country, and compare and contrast with the experience of other civil rights movements you’ve seen in class and in other assignments.

3. Focus on two documents in Chapter 29: Pat Buchanan and Jesse Jackson. Compare and contrast the details of the two documents and how they reflect the changing nature of American society.

4. Focus specifically on Chapter 28 document Report of the National Advisory Commission, which addresses civil disorder in the U.S. What’s the report’s conclusions and recommendations, and how do the other documents relate to this report?

5. A few of these documents also describe LGBTQ issues and gains. Explain the experiences of LGBTQ citizens in these documents and the impact of Obergefell v. Hodges.
