Religion is so thematically prevalent in the arts and humanities because religious faith has been among the most powerful forces in human societies since the dawn of our civilization. Religious paintings idealize, exalt, imply, and communicate a religion’s story. They preserve religious traditions and make it easier for people to visualize a notion or event that would otherwise be impossible to visualize with just words.
Sometimes works of art are involved in a religious controversy, which makes people question art and religion. Some of them shocked the world, generated scandals, or even changed the course of art history.
Search online for a contemporary news report about a visual work of art involved in a religious controversy, and answer the following questions.
Consider searching the religion section of CNN or similar sources. Response should consist of at least three substantive and substantial paragraphs which should correspond to questions asked.
