Explain how your parent’s relationship or how the relationships you observe as a child/adolescent along with your culture/ethnicity affect your ability to leave a toxic or abusive relationship. The purpose of this assignment is to identify a research question of personal
interest to you (relating to intimate relationships), find, read, and critique
existing empirical literature related to your research question, and propose a
study or experiment that would extend our understanding of that area of
research. The research proposal must be in APA style (7th edition – Purdue OWL is a helpful resource), be 5-8 double-spaced
pages (not including references), and contain the following sections:

Introduction/Literature
Review (40 pts)
The purpose
of this section is to introduce your research question, describe and critique
existing research related to your research question, and provide a rationale
for your proposed study. The introduction and literature review will need to be
concise. You must include at least 3, but no more than 5, empirical articles in
your literature review.

In your
introduction section you must:

Convince
the audience that your topic is important
·
Accurately
summarize and integrate existing literature (3-5 empirical articles) related to
your topic of interest
·
Critique
the strengths and weaknesses of the existing literature
·
Identify
what is and is not known about your topic of interest
·
Identify
the variables of interest and provide conceptual definitions
·
Provide
a rationale for your proposed study

Methods
(30 pts)
The
purpose of this section is to provide an objective and comprehensive
description of how the study/experiment you’re proposing would be
conducted, including information about your intended participants,
materials/measures, and procedure. Methods are arguably the most important part
of empirical research, and the level of accuracy and detail provided here is
essential.

In your
methods section you must:
Participants
· Identify and justify your
anticipated sample size
· Identify and justify the
population of interest from which you would sample from
· Identify and justify any relevant
demographic characteristics (e.g., age, gender, sexuality, relationship
history, etc.) you might want your participants to have
· Describe and justify your
anticipated sampling/recruitment method
Materials
· Identify and describe the relevant
questionnaires or manipulations you would use and which variables they
correspond to (e.g., how would you operationalize your variables of interest?).
Justify your decisions.
· Include an appropriate level of
detail in describing each manipulation or measure (e.g., for scales – rating
scale, number of items, reliability or validity indices, a sample item; for
manipulations or tasks – descriptions of relevant details and materials needed)
· Provide a citation for published
measures or previously existing materials
Procedure
· Briefly describe how participants would complete
the study/experiment, from consent to debriefing. Identify any parts of the
procedure that might involve deception or necessary training for experimenters.

Hypothesis
& Implications (15 pts)
The
purpose of this section is to introduce your hypothesis (i.e., what you would
expect to find if you conducted the study) and identify and describe potential
implications the anticipated results may have, either in terms of knowledge
gained or more practical applications of the results. This section represents
your final opportunity to leave a lasting, and convincing, impression of your
proposal to your audience.

In your hypothesis
and implications section you must:

your hypothesis/anticipated results. These should logically flow from the
previous research you discussed in your introduction.

If
you find evidence in line with your hypothesis, explain how the
research/results would increase our understanding of our current knowledge
about the topic (i.e., what gap would this study fill?)

and describe how the research/results may be practically applied to everyday
life
·
End
with a conclusion statement
