Essay 3 will be a seven-paragraph essay (introduction, five body paragraphs, conclusion). Prof. Quine recommends that you submit the draft by 11:45 PM EST on July 28; however, you actually have until 11:45 PM EST on July 30 to submit the draft (absolute deadline). The same is true for Essay 4.

Essay 3 Directions:
For this essay, you do not need to create an outline and thesis statement. Prof. Quine has already done that for you. She demonstrates the outline in the Essay 3/4 Overview Webinar. Here is the thesis statement you will use in Essay 3/4: The Japanese practices of child-centered caretaking, Kyushoku, and “free-range” parenting exemplify Japan’s focus on shaping healthy and independent children.
This essay will only consist of seven paragraphs. If you write more, I will return the essay to you and ask that you delete the extra paragraph/s. (We will add paragraphs to this essay as the semester rolls on.)
Paragraph 1: The Introductory Paragraph. This is a three to five sentence paragraph (including the thesis statement). Your thesis statement must be the paragraph’s last sentence. At or near the beginning of your introductory paragraph, you should provide the following information to the general readership. Take the information from the Encyclopedia Britannica article on Japan
