Create an Infographic
Infographics allow us to take complex topics and distill them into meaningful quick,
consumable, knowledge takeaways. Oftentimes we see infographics as posters in public
locations. They are a quick way to inform an audience with very little critical thinking. In
business they can be placed into common areas to inform employees of various safety
procedures, etc. They are often used as a takeaway “quick-reference” item after training.
Particularly now, we see many infographics in government and commerce locations regarding
COVID-19 safety reminders.
Infographics have been around for decades; they were often expensive and professionally
printed. Now, with Web 2.0 technology, essentially anyone with an internet connection can
access free software and create an infographic with relatively no training. Recent research in
education indicates that students reach a higher level of learning when given the task to create
an infographic, rather than simply writing a research paper.
For this Project:
1. Pick a topic that interested you from MIS 250. This could be anything from: how do
software and hardware affect competitive strategy, what is cloud computing, databases,
to Business Intelligence. It is really up to you! We covered a lot of material!
2. Chose at least 3 main points to cover within your topic. Most infographics will support
up to 6.
3. Review the topic you have selected. Research additional information if necessary.
4. In your own words, introduce the main point and give 1-2 quick facts about the point.
5. Choose a free infographic Web 2.0 tool.
6. Create your infographic and when finished, upload it to the Canvas Assignment.
