In the Leviathan, Hobbes argues that human nature leads the state of nature to be a state of war, such that we require government and law to tame us and create peace. In his Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, Rousseau, by contrast, wrote that man was neither naturally good nor evil, and ultimately corrupted by society. Explain some of the main ways in which their contrasting views on this point figure into their political theories as a whole.
