Explain the difference between reinforcement and punishment.

Psychologist Burrhus Frederick Skinner, B.F, Skinner, is known as one of the leaders in behaviorism. He was influenced by Ivan Pavlov as well as John B. Watson. For Skinner, understanding behavior is to consider the cause of an action and its consequences which became his concept of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning demonstrated the effect of positive and negative reinforcement on behavior.
For example, children receive allowances (reward) for doing chores which leads them want to keep repeating that behavior to receive the rewards. This helps strengthens this behavior with positive reinforcement. You can also use negative reinforcement to strengthen a behavior by taking away something unpleasant. Not only operant conditioning strengthen ones behavior, but it can also help eliminate undesirable behavior as well. For example, removing restrictions from a child when he or she follows the rules encourages good behavior.
