Musical Influences
Purpose:
Music plays a significant role in the life of many adolescents. The nature of that influence can vary greatly, but most of us can remember something of the music that was relevant in our adolescent lives. In this assignment you will choose two songs that might be influential in the life of a teenager. The two choices should be representative of two different generations (at least 20 years difference). Then you will compare these musical selections in terms of how they might influence adolescent life and discuss the relevance of the generational gap between them. Make sure to choose songs that allow you to address the questions listed below. If you find it impossible to answer a question based on the song you chose, you might want to choose a different song which is more connected to the adolescent topics we are discussing.
To complete this assignment, you have two format options:
Smore: Using smore.com, create a flyer that compares the musical selections. For this option, you must embed the youtube videos into the flyer. You can submit the smore URL on a word document or in the text submission box on the assignment submission page. It is not necessary to pay for the pdf download version. Be sure to include in text citations and full references on your flyer.
Vidgrid: Using vidgrid, you will record a video of yourself presenting the analysis, and play the music within your description. You should have a written description of your analysis shared on the screen and do not need to have your face, if you do not wish to have your face appear in the video.
