This short paper will examine the background, motivations, and crimes of Ross Ulbricht. The intention is to gather information about this criminal to try to gain insight into why he committed the crimes he did. In learning a criminal’s background, his educational history, family history, and whatever other information can be gathered one can make some assumptions about the crimes he choose to commit and the Criminologist or Criminal Profiler can even make reasonable predictions as to whether he might or might not be a good candidate for parole. It is only by delving deeply into the crimes of an offender that we can learn the techniques, motivations, and desires of that criminal.

This short paper has explored the crimes of Ross Ulbricht and made some assumptions about his level of education and intelligence that lead him down the path of creating the Silk Road. The types of crimes that someone commits reveals their thought processes and how they view the world. The techniques used in committing crimes can also reveal a great deal about the personality and mindset of the criminal. When the Criminal Profiler gathers information on a criminal the intent is to learn all they can about the offender and use that information to gain a deeper understanding of the criminal and their potential for rehabilitation.
