Choose a specific issue of public concern that you have strong feelings about and write an essay o in MLA format that logically examines all sides of your topic objectively, and which arrives at a conclusion that will be persuasive to a reader who fundamentally disagrees with your stated position.

The Method:

Use the structure of the Classical Argument to anticipate your reader’s objections, to deal with them on your own terms, and to refute them.

Articulation of the problem or argument and the formation of a restricted thesis.
Examination and refutation of evidence contrary to the thesis.
Presentation of evidence in support of the thesis.
If necessary and productive, a conclusion that adds new insight or dimension to the argument, and a re-articulation of the thesis in terms made more complex and refined by the execution of I and II.

This means that your essays are in MLA format, that there are few if any grammatical or mechanical errors, and that you have taken enough care with your work to carefully proofread it. I advise all of you to make use of the LTC to attain that necessary goal.
