Week 1 Discussion
Each week, you must make at least 3 posts to the Discussion Board. One post will be your response to the week’s topic or question, and the other two posts will be responses to your classmates or the Instructor. To earn full credit, all posts must be substantive and well written and the posts must be on at least three separate days of the week. Please see the Discussion Board Rubric for specific expectations for the Discussion Boards. You must use a citation and reference, APA 7th ed. style, in your initial post and in both of your response posts. It is important to review the Discussion Board Rubric to fully understand the grading and expectations.

This week’s topic: Read and critique health care article
Read and critique or watch one (electronic) news article on health care delivery in the United States. For example, find an article or news video that is about or relates to the major historical factors that affected the American healthcare system and describe their relationship to our current system. Or, find an article about access issues within our current health care system, for example for special populations like the homeless or indigent, or the settings in which our health care services are available.
For this assignment, you may use an article that is in the mainstream media. You can do a google search or search some of the major news websites for articles or videos. However, do not use Wikipedia.
In your initial post, include an overview of the article or video. Analyze and post your assessment of the article you choose. Before you post your article, be sure to check and make sure no one else has posted it already. Remember to include the link to the article or news video.

Hello Class,
I chose an article pertaining to homelessness and health care. The author of this article, Sachin Jain, describes homelessness as a healthcare issue. Explain why that generally people say they are homeless due to loosing their job, but how did they use their job? “Sickness and injury make holding a job difficult which leads to income declining for those without a safety net.” (Hayashi, S.) I even read that being homeless takes twenty years off someone’s life span. I worked in a hospital that cared for many homeless patients. I worked in our dietary department, providing patient catering. Most the time these patients would ask for double portions or many extra items. I would happily give it to them as long as it was within their dietary restrictions, even send them away with a bag of goodies to take to the streets with them. I find it very sad the only help these people would get is coming to the hospital. One I was close with had diabetic issues and needed part of his foot removed. Shortly after, they discharged him to the streets with his cast. He was back a week later with a severe infection. Due to not having insurance or the funds for doctors visits the emergency room is their only option for health care. These people do not have the funds for treatment for things such as insulin needed to treat diabetes. I believe if he had access to healthcare, he would not have lost his foot.

Californa’s goven is proposing the first univeral health care coverage in the United States. They will offer all immagrants healthcare coverage no matter the their status or how they came to America (Aljazeera, 2022). If this bill is passed California tax payers will have a steep increase in taxes (Aljazeera, 2022). The universal plan is a great idea because it will allow everyone access to health care. The downside is the increase in taxes, if taxes increase that will cause cost of living to go up. The possible negative outcome of that is the cost of living is going up due to the taxes increase. It has been studied that the increase of taxes have a direct impact on cost of living (Gillingham & Greenlees, 1987). If taxes increase and but jobs are not paying more this could cause an increase in the homeless popultaion. If the homeless population increase that will decrease the amount of taxes that are being collected which may cause an econmy crash. Now the good thing that could come from this is people just increasing their income (this is not hard today because uber, door dash, and instacart makes that easy). If the majority of people just decided to increase their income that would level out the increase of living and we will still be able to offer health care for everyone.
