FORMAL PRESENTATION: “Values Speech” Update- 3 to 4 minutes
Now that you’ve discovered the difference between informative and persuasive speaking, you’ve chosen your persuasive speech topic (your value) and have formulated your specific purpose statement, how about providing a “project update” for your classmates? We’d like to hear the additional thoughts and plans you have for the Persuasive “Values” speech.
So, in this unit, you will develop and upload an Informative Speech video entitled: Formal Presentation: “Values Speech” Update.
You will tell your audience what you’ve done so far and what plans you have for the upcoming persuasive values speech. So, take your time and–
Remind us of your topic (value) and your specific purpose statement.
Explain why you are the person to give the speech on your chosen value. Why are you interested in the value and what gives you the experience or credibility to talk about this value? (Feel free to mention areas of competence, character, caring, and/or charisma.)
Explore why you believe your audience would be interested in this topic. How do you anticipate they will react to your topic/value? Feel free to share feedback you might have received from previous discussion with your classmates and talk with us about the psychographic information (Section 5.1 of the e-text) you have discovered about your classmates.
Share any new or adjusted intentions you may have. What are you interested in discovering here? What more do you think you need to learn about this value? What are you curious about? What do you think you will need to research?
When you’re ready to present your update, do not read from a script, outline, or directly from your computer screen. Approach this experience as if you’re having a conversation (a dialogue) with your audience through the eye of the camera lens.
Remember this is a speech, you are not writing and reading a paper on camera. That’s not how we’re approaching this class.
Use note cards to keep you organized and make direct eye contact with the lens of your camera while you are standing in front of it.
Also please record your speech horizontally NOT vertically. We want to see you and your gestures.

You will not receive credit for simply posting a written discussion of your speech. You must complete an actual speech video here.
Please realize also that you will be asked to re-record your speech if you edit any part of the video. Your presentation must be uploaded as one continuous speech, meaning you may not submit your speech video with numerous different “takes”.
Once you’ve uploaded your speech video, make sure you spend time reviewing as many of your classmates’ speeches as possible. Provide constructive feedback to at least 5 of them. Comment on their chosen value and their anticipated approach to research and plans for presentation.
