Explain your experience on “stepping out of your box” into the political environment.

Each student will be required to attend a public meeting. The event can discuss information on a state, city, our county level. Examples include a state legislative committee hearing, a town hall meeting, city, county, or school board meeting, tribal council, political forum, or neighborhood association meeting. Criteria: Members are elected to the position by a public vote.
After attending, you will write a 3-4 page reaction paper describing what you observed and your impressions of the gathering. Explain your experience on “stepping out of your box” into the political environment. This experience may not be a new one for those familiar with and actively participate in the political process(es).
Content for the paper should include:
The name, date and location of the meeting.
Describe what the problem/social welfare issue/policy is that the meeting attempts to address.
Describe who the stakeholders are regarding the problem/social welfare issue/policy. Who lead the meeting? Presenters?
Was there an opportunity for the public to participate? If so, who were they? What was their position? How were they received?
Was the hearing or meeting easy to follow? Why?
Was diversity and sensitivity evident? Members? Audience? Topics discussed?
Was the hearing or meeting what you expected? Why or why not?
