Projects:
While the discussions and take-home exam assignments will probe the breadth of your knowledge and understanding of space exploration, the project component will be your change to go into greater depth on a particular topic that interests you. You can either choose something we’ve discussed in class (e.g. space colonization, the search for life beyond Earth) or something you think we should discuss in class but haven’t (e.g. space programs of up-and-coming nations like India) to study in greater depth. Then you should write a well-researched 5-page paper (1 1/2 spaced, in an 11 or 12 point font, and the page limit does not include images, footnotes or bibliography) in which you examine how your chosen issue either has or will influence our species’ potential for exploration beyond our home world.
When you write up your project, you should be imagining that your reader is a fellow student in the Exploration of Space. I will be grading your project based not only on its accuracy and insightfulness, but also on its pedagogical effectiveness – that is, its potential for inclusion among the required readings for this class in future semesters. You will be seeing several outstanding examples of student projects from previous semesters among your readings this term, so you’ll get a sense of what my standards are.
See “How You Will Be Evaluated” below to find out how my grading system works, and when the due dates will be for your exams and projects.
IF YOU INCLUDE IMAGES PLEASE ADD THEM AT THE END DON’T USE THEM WITHIN THE FIVE PAGES PLEASE
NO PLAGARIZING ACCEPTED AT ALL BUT RELATIVELY EASY ASSIGNMENT.
