One of the arguments against universal health care is that medical providers will not want to work for the government so fewer talented individuals will go into health care and those who do, will not have an incentive to innovate or provide high quality care. What do you think about this argument against universal health care?
As you study the information (charts, graphs and articles) provided, you’ll find that 1.) The United States is the only country of all developed countries that does not have the government as the single payor or as an option to pay for nearly every citizen in that country and 2.) The United States is not at the top (or in some cases even near the top) for most health care outcomes. The US is not one of the worst countries for per capita smoking but where do we rank very high (as one of the worst) is in terms of obesity rates. How does this (our rate of obesity) likely to contribute to our ranking in health care? What can REALISTICALLY be done to help improve the health of US citizens on a macroeconomic (our citizens as a whole) level and what role can health care play?
