The discussion section is where you tell the reader you interpreted the results of your experiment. If you have done the results part well, your readers should already recognize the trends in the data and have a fairly clear idea of how your claim is supported. The discussion contains several parts, in no particular order, but roughly moving from specific (i.e., related to your experiment only) to general (how your findings fit in the larger scientific picture). In this section, you will, as a rule, need to:
Explain how the data supports your claim
Acknowledge your errors and deviations from what you expected
Derive conclusions, based on your findings, about the process youre studying
Explore the theoretical and/or practical implications of your findings
Use the information from this week’s experiment to write a discussion.
You should use your lab data, which you might find useful to refer to by copying and pasting it as a table like it would occur in your results section.
Your discussion should highlight aspects of the lab that are important, like how you demonstrated solubility and reactions in the lab.
