INSTRUCTIONS
You should focus upon a specific community or First Nation within that cultural area.
Then, you should look into a significant, current issue facing the community or Nation.
Research your chosen issue using a variety of academic resources, beginning with suggestions provided in your textbook and then expanding to other sources on the shelves of the College’s Library and Learning Commons, ordered through inter-library loan, or more likely found in the electronic databases.
(If you are forced to use non-scholarly sources, like popular magazines or film, be certain you can explain why and in what ways these sources might affect your research.)
Once you have concluded your research, follow the five element outline listed below to produce a paper presenting your findings.
A. Introduction
A paragraph(s) describing the chosen topic and why it needs to be researched.
B. Thesis Question
An explicitly stated research question, including the key concepts and definitions needing to be clarified so the audience will understand it.
C. Argument and Analysis
A body exploring the case in greater detail and leading to some sort of answer about the research question. Part of the case being built or answer being proposed may very well be to point out limitations preventing any sort of clear-cut resolution.
D. Conclusion
A restatement of the findings, including perhaps what was the greatest discovery accomplished by carrying out this research.
E. Footnotes and Bibliography
Reference sections documenting, according to Chicago Style, the source of quotations or ideas borrowed from and a list of all materials consulted in the production of this assignment.
In preparing your paper, you may want to draw up an outline and submit it to me by Week Six. I will then look it over, making comments and/or suggestions as to improvements. It is, however, optional to do so, recognizing other courses demand your time and effort.
In total, the paper should be five pages in length, exclusive of title page, notes, and bibliography.
