Expository

Now that we’ve explored basic essay format, it’s time to combine that knowledge with the brainstorming in Week 1 to create an expository essay. The purpose of an expository essay is to delve deeply into a topic and explore various facets of it; your lists from last week are the perfect start!
Using one of your brainstormed lists from last week, write an expository essay that explores the reasons why you feel as you do about your chosen topic. Use the basic essay structure to format your essay, and include all 5 points from your original list.
To expand the points from your list into full paragraphs, think critically about why each point supports your argument. In other words, it’s not enough to say you love the smells of Christmas—you also need to explain why these smells are great!
In addition to using your own reasoning to support your points, you’ll need to use 2-3 outside sources in your paper. These sources must be cited both in-text and with a Reference page in APA style. These may or not be the sources you located in Week 4; it’s up to you.
Your paper’s length should be 2-3 pages, double-spaced. If you’re short on length, revisit your points and consider whether or not you can explore them in more depth, and consider finding another source to discuss within the context of your topic.
