This presentation will be your exploration of a famous family (past or present) in the United States. You may select someone who is in the limelight. This can include movie stars, politicians, athletes, stage actors/musicians, musicians & anyone that is likely to be recognized by your instructor or your classmates. Once you have chosen your ‘family’, you will identify each of the following: (10 points each). Include at least 4 areas listed below:
•Their family structure (nuclear, single parent, extended, childless, stepfamily, grandparent family)
•Habits/rituals of the family
•Dating practices in the family
•Legality of the family (married or cohabiting)
•Roles of the individuals in the family
•Identify any conflicts that are known to be in this family
AND INCLUDE:
•Theoretical perspective that fits with the family – at least 3 slides (this area is required).
(Some theories that might fit with your family – Symbolic Interaction, Social Conflict, Social Exchange Theory, Family Systems Theory, Feminist Theory. Of course, there are others, but these are the main ones that can be found in Chapters 1 and 2 of your textbook. Be sure you understand the theory as you choose to apply it to the family you are presenting about.)
You may also include other information that you think is important for your subject.
There should be a minimum of 3-5 outside sources.
Also, include an additional visual component- such as a video- an interview, or video of the person in social media, an audio podcast, a graph/chart that illustrates the person’s family tree or popularity for example, an article about the individual- are examples– you will also include a written explanation of this visual in your presentation
Reminders:
Please remember to review the instructions thoroughly- Please follow the rubric-also title your slides, include your visual component- such as a video (at least 2-3 min. video) or a graph or chart, you can consider an audio pod cast (ex.: NPR. org)- if you find something that relates to your family. The presentation should be at least 10 minutes.
There should be at least 15-22 slides minimum, excluding the title page and reference page. Please try to use our text as a source for defining the family structure.
