For this assignment, students will watch at least 3 episodes of a TV show (within the same season) that focuses on family life. Students will apply what has been learned in HSER1700 to the TV family and discuss the following in a 3 page paper (make sure to have an introduction):
¥ Provide 1-2 paragraphs about the TV family- characters names and ages, etc.
¥ Discuss the family relationships and dynamics. What is healthy, what is unhealthy? Provide examples and reasons.
¥ What are the strengths and coping mechanisms of the family?
¥ Discuss each family member’s role in the family.
¥ Discuss dependency or enmeshment that may be occurring.
¥ Discuss the communication patterns between the family members.
¥ Discuss triangulation or dyads/triads that exist.
Conclude your paper with discussion related to the following questions:
¥ If you were working with this family as a Human Services Professional, what referrals or resources would you recommend to assist this family and why?
¥ When working with families, what biases, stereotypes and modeling did you receive from your own family that could impact your ability to effectively intervene as a Human Services Professional?
Students should be prepared to discuss their TV family in class.
