Feedack

Take a single, blank sheet of Letter sized (or A4) paper, and transform it so that it operates according to the properties of new media art and systems aesthetics we learned. Perhaps, you could use the paper as an example of an input/output feedback system. What you do to the paper is not restricted to writing or drawing: you may fax it, print on it, clone it, burn it, fold it, crumple it, measure it, stick things on it, cut it, atomically deconstruct it, post it, place it, exhibit it, anything that you like.

For the submission, you need to document your project in any media (photo, sound, video)(Just photo) and submit the documentation with a description of your process (350 words max). Make sure you include footnotes of reference material, citations (if any) and bibliography. Upload on Canvas a document in PDF, or DOCX format.

The goal of the second assignment is to think about the process of feedback loops in art-making. Create an interesting feedback loop that emulates, rather than simulates, life around us. If you still feel confused about the concept, read Jack Burnham’s Systems Aesthetics (1968), go over the lecture notes on “Manovich’s New media properties,” and reference some 20th-century scientific influences (e.g. Ludwig von Bertalanffy, Norbert Wiener) Also, examples of early systems art will be helpful.
