Throughout the semester, you will need to write a response to/analysis of two films, providing an explanation as to how the themes of the films relate to the readings. I do not want you to comment on the artistic quality of the movie. Instead, after briefly explaining the film’s premise, I want you to tell me how I should understand the film in terms of its application to the course goals and objectives spelled out on the syllabus (foundations, Institutions, democratic politics, and governance). You should provide an intro with a thesis statement, two supporting points, and then a conclusion. These papers should be at least two full pages and submitted by the due dates indicated. A rubric can be found in the first module of the Canvas homepage. An example paper and supplementary material may be posted (as possible) on Canvas. I am also willing to discuss your papers with you individually and you are more than invited to discuss the films in the week’s Discussion Board. The idea of this assignment is to help you become better writers. You may also discuss your papers with the Writing Studio (for writing mechanics – see info on the syllabus). Again, there is clear flexibility built into this assignment but note that, because of this, late papers will not be accepted.
Advice and Instructions:
Use the three assigned textbooks, the powerpoints (which you should think about but not cite in your paper), and the discussion board for inspiration. You do not need to bring in outside sources at all for an A paper.
*Remember that you only need to do TWO film response papers.
