“You have a series of Cases where you have to use Excel. These cases are from your textbook and will require you to build spreadsheets from scratch. You should use skills you have learned from our earlier assignments and from your Business Analytics course. I also recommend YouTube to help you in learning how to perform activities in Excel. And always please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Chapter 6: Case 51 & 52. These two cases should take you about 95 minutes to complete. The Scatter diagram, Hi-Low method and Visual Fit methods are in the regular part of the chapter. You will need to read the appendix for chapter 6 to help with using Excel for Least-squares Regression. You will use Excel to complete all parts of these cases with the exception of the memo which should be completed using Microsoft Word. Make sure the memo is prepared per business professional communication. In Excel you must use Excel formulas and cell referencing where possible. Create ONE Excel file for these cases and use separate Excel worksheets as you see fit.
Chapter 9: Case 9-47. This case will take you about 2 hours to complete. You will build one Excel file/Workbook with spreadsheets in Excel using formulas, cell referencing, and professional formatting. You will build the following schedules:
Sales Budget; Cash Receipts Budget; Production Budget; Direct-material Budget; Cash Disbursements Budget; Summary Cash Budget; Budgeted Cost of Goods Manufactured and Sold; Budgeted Income Statement; Budgeted Statement of Retained Earnings; and Budgeted Balance Sheet.
As you complete one schedule/statement, that information will be used to build the next statement (using cell referencing). This will be similar to your Excel Assignment from Week 2, Chapter 3.
Cases 14-62 and 14-63: These two cases will take you about 100 minutes. Create one Excel file for these cases, probably will need one spreadsheet per case. You must use Excel formulas, cell referencing, and proper formatting for all parts of these cases except for the Memo in Case 63 which should be done using Microsoft Word.
