Option 2 – Infographic Essay :
Topic/Sources: Research and write a 400- to 500-word essay where you analyze 1 to 2 infographics on one of the following topics:
(1) #ArabSpring(https://www.britannica.com/event/Arab-Spring),
(2) #BlackLivesMatter(https://www.britannica.com/event/shooting-of-Trayvon-Martin),
(3) #MeToo(https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2018/10/212801/me-too-movement-history-timeline-year-weinstein)
or (4) #OccupyWallStreet(http://occupywallst.org/)
Feel free to find your own source material if you prefer not to use visualizations from the above sites.
Length/Format: 400- to 500-words, 12-point Times New Roman font. Infographics and references are not included in your word count. Add the word count to the top of your essay.
Content: Your essay should consider (but is not limited to) the following questions:
• Introduction/Background: A brief description of your topic, including:
o Why did you choose your topic? Why is it interesting and important?
o How and why infographics are used to display your topic?
• Infographic Examples: Describe 1 to 2 infographics on
(1) #ArabSpring, (2) #BlackLivesMatter, (3) #MeToo, or (4) #OccupyWallStreet:
o Where did you find your infographics?
o Which type of infographics did you choose? What information is displayed in your infographics?
o Do these infographics measure the same aspect of the topic or different aspects?
o What are the differences and similarities between these infographics?
• Discussion: Apply what you have learned from the course to discuss the following:
o Why are your infographics (in)effective in presenting information (consider viewer perspective)?
o Provide suggestions/solutions to improve the infographic.
References: Include at least 2 formal APA references. Turnitin will check your essay for plagiarism. If you fail to
use proper references or there is plagiarism, you may receive a failing score for your project. References are not included in your 400- to 500-word word count.
Grading (=100 points. The points you earn will be converted to 25% of the total course grade):
• Completeness and Thoroughness (50 points). Include all required elements: infographics, essay discussion, and references described above. Show that you have researched thoroughly, argued compellingly, and organized your ideas clearly. Use evidence/references to strengthen your arguments.
• Clarity (20 points). Ensure your sentences are short, clear, and understandable.
• Flow and structure (20 points). Organize the essay to ensure sentences and paragraphs flow smoothly.
Use transition sentences between paragraphs and sections.
• Wow factor (10 points). Make your ideas, visuals, and references stand out. For example, you might find new perspectives in evaluating your infographics. Try to include important and high quality infographics for analysis.
