Journal Entry 7: SPOILER ALERT–IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE MOVIE FIGHT CLUB YET, DO NOT READ THIS JOURNAL ENTRY. GO WATCH IT AND THEN PROCEED, SO NOTHING GETS RUINED. For this journal entry you will need to use at least two direct quotes from the movie, and you will need MLA style parenthetical citations for each of them. Fight Club plays fairly with the audience and gives a good deal of foreshadowing about the fact that the narrator and Tyler Durden are the same person. What evidence is used throughout the film to show that the Narrator and Tyler are the same person with a dissociative personality disorder? Finally, discuss why the narrator needed Tyler to show up in his head? What was he lacking in life, or what did he need to cure about himself?
Journal Entry 8: The film American Beauty is a story about character contradictions. Through the course of the movie, we start to learn that various characters feel one way about themselves but act a different way on the surface. This is the case for Angela, Carol, Frank, and Lester (especially at the start of the film, though he tries to change and evolve). Discuss two characters from the film. What image do they project about themselves, and how does it contradict the way they truly feel about themselves? Be sure you use specific examples and a direct quote with a parenthetical citation for each character.
