Overview
In this essay, I want you to use what we’ve read in class to help you critically analyze and reflect on how our environments and the ways we shape societies can impact our identities. Often, we think that we form our own identity, but we fail to see or critically think about how our identity has already been shaped by the way our surroundings impact us whether we agree or allow it. In your essay, you will apply key ideas/concepts from the unit two course material to help guide your analysis.
Steele, Claude M. “Whistling Vivaldi and Beating Stereotypes”
Rose, Mike. “I Just Want to Be Average”
Price, Devon. “Laziness Does Not Exist.”
Lahiri, Jhumpa “Rhode Island”
Mengestu, Dinaw “Home at Last”
Baratunde, Thurston. “How to Be Black”
