Hello, this is a draft. I’m supposed to send 3 drafts. THIS IS A DRAFT.
College Composition II – Essay #2 Persuasive Argument
Standard APA style format
Minimum 1100-1200 words plus references page
Minimum 4 Academic Sources: the 2 assigned readings and 2 researched by the student.
Assignment
After reading and analyzing the required readings and researching two more scholarly sources, write a formal argumentative academic essay about the assigned topic.
The introductory paragraph should provide common knowledge background and context for the debate and should end with a clearly stated 1 to 2 sentence argumentative thesis. Typically, you should save integration of specific source evidence for the body paragraphs, but you may cite history/background information on the topic.
Each body paragraph (3 to 4 total) should include the following elements.
Explicitly stated topic sentence
Evidence/support: quote, paraphrase, or summary from at least two of the required readings or researched sources. Be sure to attribute source evidence with an in-text citation that corresponds to a citation on the references page.
Analysis/discussion: your interpretation of the evidence in order to support your thesis
The conclusion should frame the essay by recalling the importance of the debate as introduced in the introductory paragraph and bring the topic full circle for current relevance. Be sure to make the topic relevant to the health and progress of humanity.
Required Sources
The references page requires at least four source citations. Two of them must be from the assigned readings for argument, and the other two must be scholarly sources researched by the student.
A significant portion of the grade is determined by a student’s ability to find and integrate scholarly source evidence into the body paragraphs to support the thesis.
Avoid popular sources, dictionaries, and encyclopedias. Although they may be used as additional sources, they should not be relied on to significantly support an argument.
Color Coding Structure of Essay
Thesis – the 1 to 2 sentences at the end of the introductory paragraph.
One Topic Sentence in each Body Paragraph – a sentence near the beginning
Restatement of the Thesis in the Conclusion, using synonyms and different sentence structure
Support/Evidence in the Body Paragraphs from outside sources
