C What does it mean to “support the
troops?”
Here in the United States we constantly hear of the need to always
“support the troops” (i.e. “thank you for your service”).
Check out the page Asking Veterans what
“Support the Troops” Means. Consider the viewpoints expressed by some of our veterans and
address the following:
1.
Is there a larger function of thanking troops and
veterans, but not thanking so many others in our society who sacrifice and
serve the common good? Do you agree or disagree with these veterans? (and it
is okay to disagree with veterans–they are just people too) Is our
current situation of “Endless War” a healthy thing for the safety of
our country or our military?
2.
Is it un-patriotic to critique military actions? If you
had the opportunity, what would you want to express or ask one of
these veterans? How best can/should society support the troops?
Your initial response should be between 250 and 350 words in length,
reflecting on the prompt above.
