The American Revolution cast off British colonial controls, while the French Revolution had even more sweeping implications for social and political change. The revolutionary era lasted in western Europe through 1848 and spurred independence struggles in Latin America. A host of new political ideas and ideologies emerged in the revolutionary era.
Before starting on the assignment, watch this segment of a BBC documentary, the French Revolution. The full production is 1 hour and 16 minutes long, but to introduce you to the age of revolutions, we have selected a 33-minute clip. However, you may, of course, watch the full production as it is an informative film.
For this assignment, you will develop a scholarly, APA 7th Edition formatted essay that examines the French Revolution.
Based on independent research and textbook readings, answer the following prompts in your one to two-page essay (not counting references):
Discuss what provoked the French Revolution.
What reforms did the French Revolution bring about
Examine the political movements that emerged in the aftermath of the French Revolution. and
Conclude by comparing and contrasting the American and French revolutions.
