–It provides adequate context for your thesis
Body should have:
–Contain strong topic sentences that preview the focus of each body paragraph
–Adequate support for your thesis by using specific quotes from the text or paraphrases
–Provide clear explanation of how the textual examples you are discussing support the argument. This aspect of analysis is called synthesis! You are synthesizing or making logical connections for your reader.
Conclusion should have:
–At least 5 complete sentences in length
–Reviews the main ideas of your essay
Leaves the reader with a final thought on the topic in the last sentence

Introduction – Just like the top portion of the “hourglass”, your introduction should start broad and narrow into your thesis. Your thesis narrows the topic to focus directly on the text.
Body – The body of your essay is the narrowest point of the “hourglass”, focusing on analyzing the text and including specific textual examples.
Conclusion- The conclusion is structured to start narrowly (i.e. restating the thesis), then broadens into highlighting the main points of the essay and ending with a final thought on the topic.
