Assessment
Criteria and Assignment Specific Advice
Planning
Please
tailor your writing style according to the requirements of each assignment
within the portfolio.
Option A: Grant Proposal
This should
be written in a report writing style. Please address all the questions listed
in the assignment guide and include illustrations and figures where relevant.
Identify an appropriate institution and project around which to develop your
proposal. Think about the scope of the project, and what parameters you would
like to include in the proposal. Justify why there is a need for the project. You must cite relevant academic literature,
sector-facing reports, and other relevant references and use them to help you
make a case for the proposal. Your ability to make a
convincing case for your proposal and for the resources needed to realise the proposal
will carry a significant weight on the grading of your
work. Demarcate the
appropriate boundaries and limits for the project to suit the limit of the word
count. Devise a logical format and structure to communicate your main ideas,
including your research and data collection. Provide evidence of a realistic timescale
and budget for your proposal or report.

Research
You should
draw on the themes covered in the module as well as other readings relevant to your
project or issue.
Option
A: Grant Proposal
You are
free to draw on a wide variety of resources (e.g. past work experiences,
web-based resources and/or practical museum or exhibition development manuals and
handbooks) to help you develop a realistic scenario for your project. You are
strongly encouraged to consult the class presentations for ideas. Be creative
in your approach to put together the grant proposal. For example, in sourcing
for ballpark budget estimates for your proposal, you can consult online job
advertisements for an estimated budget for a post in the museum, or amazon
website for an estimated price of the equipment you wish to purchase. A budget
estimate is always a projection, and therefore, adding a contingency budget of
5% to 10% to your total budget will help to compensate for any uncertainty
inherent in your time and budget estimates.

Analysis
Your
analysis should be clear and concise and demonstrate careful thought and
critical thinking.
Option
A: Grant Proposal
Argue a
positive and strong case for your proposal. Offer strong justifications for the
proposal, backed by a solid research base and demonstrate a good understanding
of contemporary museum functions, activities, methods and costs. You are
strongly encouraged to cite relevant literature to put forth a convincing
reason for why the proposal is needed, as well as a strong justification for
the resources you need to realise the proposal. Be realistic and clear about
what the outcomes of your project is and who are the beneficiaries.

Communication
Spend time
checking and improving your choice of words, grammar constructions and writing
style. You are encouraged to use images to illustrate your point. Ensure that
your assignment is laid out in logical sections and has a clear narrative
structure. You are encouraged to draw on sub-headings to structure your
argument. Write in a suitable writing style. Avoid colloquial, informal or
emotive expressions. Consider using photos or other images to communicate your
points if they could help the reader understand your examples or ideas. Clearly
label and explain all the photographs, images, tables, graphs or diagrams in
relation to your points. If you are using sources from a foreign language, you
are expected to translate them into English.

Bibliography
Author-date Harvard style. Ensure
you are referencing in a consistent style. Ensure all ideas and sources are appropriately credited.
Remember to translate non-English titles and materials into English language. All
sources should be appropriately credited using quotation marks as necessary, so
the reader can follow up on the original work if they wish, and so that you
avoid accusations of plagiarism.
