GUN CONTROL IN CA

Select an issue in CA politics, past or present, and write a research paper.
(I picked Gun Control)

Two-page Paper Outline Instructions (both pages must be filled completely to be considered two pages)

Introductory Comments
The content of the final paper will include the following:
A six-page paper (plus cover and reference page(s)).
You have a lot of latitude for writing the final paper. The content and direction you go are mostly up to you. Be sure to focus on explaining the politics of the issue you’re writing about from an academic perspective (i.e., “why” is this the way it is and not what it “should” be). Under no circumstances, are you supposed to advocate “for” or ” against” any group or policy. Similarly, do not state what you think “should” or “should not” be policy. Your assignment is to explain why something is the way it is whether you like it or not, whether you think it is “good” or “bad,” or if you think it “should” or “should not” be. You are NEUTRAL in your analysis like a scientist describing a bug.
Two-page paper outline instructions (both pages must be filled completely)
□ Use blank sample under for formatting style: Sample Outline (POSC 120).pdf
Actions
□ Headings and titles (e.g., name, class title, etc.) are unnecessary since the assignment is submitted electronically.
□ Double spaced (do not single space).
□ Proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
□ Include three academic sources (e.g., academic books or journals) found in the Palomar College databases (i.e., no random internet sites found from a Google or other search engine).
Once you have your three academic sources you may use any sources you think are credible. Promoting questionable or crackpot sources will reflect poorly on your work so be careful. Popular sources like newspapers, magazines, and “websites” are weak sources. Wikipedia is of course banned as a source. Review the Sources and Citations lecture to identify academic sources.
□ Proper APSA parenthetical citations must be used throughout the assignment.
□ Proper APSA full references at the end of the outline (part of the two pages not a separate page).
□ Do not talk about what you’re “going to do.” Demonstrate that real work and research has been done on the paper beyond just finding the 3 required sources (e.g., actually read them, selected quotes, etc.). Each section must demonstrate some real research has been done.
□ Submit to Canvas as a WORD document.
Feel free to submit work early for review (the earlier the better). Anything submitted less than 24 hours before the assignment is due cannot be guaranteed a return.
