For our Research Paper assignment we will focus on the two books we read for our class: The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Both of these books apply in some way to the concept of success in life. And, on some level they also relate to the idea of happiness in life.
Happiness and Success
The research you do for your topic will guide you in developing the thesis of the paper. Remember that your essay is not a personal opinion or personal response paper. It must be based on objective academic research and demonstrate MLA (Modern Language Association) format for the cited sources.
Your research paper must include the following items:
A clearly defined thesis statement that states your research topic.
Clear textual support from the outside sources that you use.
For your outside sources you will need to identify the key information in them, and evaluate that information for your reader in your body paragraphs.
A development of the thesis throughout the body of the paper and the conclusion.

Academic quality writing:
Proper English usage and grammar. Review Handout: The Eight Parts of Speech!
No jargon, or slang
Accurate spelling (Do not simply rely on Spell Check or Grammar Check!)
Use of proper sentence structure, no fragments or run-on sentences.
A Demonstration of accurate and precise parenthetical citations of all direct quotes and ideas paraphrased from the text.
Direct Quotes must be limited to FOUR and must be no longer than 2 lines per quote. Each quote must be cited in the MLA style.

You may not use the words, “I,” “Me,” “My,” or “Myself.”
If you paraphrase any text you must also cite the page number from the book.
Your paper must contain in-depth analysis and proper reasoning. This means that you must reflect on your thesis statement in relationship to the primary text.
The analysis you present must also be logical in its presentation. This means that your ideas contained within the body of your paper must be presented in a specific organized and structured format.
To receive full credit for the assignment, your paper should meet the minimum required word count.
You will need to include a Counter Paragraph
For the counter paragraph you can either highlight a problem or weakness in the research information or present a counter argument.
